LETTER #7 . . . 1st area and comp . . Castro, Chilóe!!!!!

Hi All,

Wowzers, time is such a very weird thing and being out here, it goes so fast and so slow at the same time . . but i miss you all soso very much and i can not wait to see you all again.
The new missionaries just arrived in Osorno!
My journey from the Mexico MTC to my apartment was as follows: 3 bus rides, 2 plane rides, 2 hotels, 1 boat ride, 2 taxis, and a partridge in a pear tree!!! But for real it was a crazy couple of days but i finally made it and it is soso cold here!  It rains literally all day and it's COLD RAIN but also i am soso very happy!!
President and Sister Isom

I met with President Isom on Tuesday super early morning and the first thing he said was "woah are you going to have an experience!" and i said "what do you mean?" and he said the place where you will be serving not only has the fastest Spanish with the most slang in the whole world but also your companion does not speak a word of english! Literally, other than the english i have taught him, he does not know a single word!

My companion's name is Elder Guiñansaca and he is from Ecuador and i'm still kinda trying to figure out what he likes because we don't speak the same language . . . but he is funny and we just laugh at each other. Also, the people here sound like they are speaking Chinese sometimes and they just mumble their words and add letters onto everything haha but i am learning so fast. Sometimes we go sit in member's houses and i have no idea what anyone is saying and i just nod my head and say ¨Siiiiipo¨ which means yes and ¨bacaaan¨ which means cool and sometimes i get laughed at . . but it is OK!!

Elder Guinansaca and Britt on the island of Chiloe!

The island of Chilóe is a super big island and super colorful and there are stray dogs everywhere and the poor parts of the city are made of sheet metal and ply wood and the people seem to be very receptive of the gospel. It's super pretty and green here and also impossible to escape the cold (i wear leggings under my church pants)!

IDK if i told you guys.. but i buzzed my head!! The Chilean kids love touching it and even though i have no idea what they are saying, i just laugh and nod!! Anyways sorry i don't have that much time because i am paying to be on this computer and people are angrily looking at me but i love you all and THE CHURCH IS TRUE!! Remember to read scriptures (Enos 1) and pray and also write in a journal!! LOVE YOU ALL!  Also know that i may seem super positive but i do get down on myself . . . no one is perfect!!
New missionaries arriving!

Here are a few small excerpts from his letter to the family . . .

Chilean food!
My comp literally does not know a word of english haha but i am trying my best to teach him while he is teaching me and somehow we can communicate . .  but it's hard because i communicate through stories and i can't do that with him.

Chilóe island is soso cold and also pretty and there are rainbows everyday!

There were 17 of us going to Osorno and only me my comp and our Hermanas from my district. Yes it was very sad saying goodbye to my district and everybody was crying but i will see most of them again so it is ok!

One of the rainbows!
We left Mexico right after Mexico Independence day and got there right when Chile independence started and idk if they take their holidays very serious because it didn't seem like anything too crazy but some fireworks and some cool lights!

I am so exausted all day and i have to keep readjusting so that i do not fall asleep! It is hard to stay awake when you don't know what anyone is saying. Castro Chiloe is a 6 hour bus ride and 30 minute ferry ride from the mission home and it is so green here . . but literally like bitter cold. I wear leggings and 2 coats all day long and we had to heat our apartment with the stove all week till yesterday. I use my coats, umbrella, sleeping bag literally every single day which is crazy cause it's spring.

Sleeping quarters!
Also with the new temple it's a bummer because we don't get to see it but we get to watch something on TV i believe.

Remember through it all to read the scriptures and pray as a family and personally. I miss you tons and think about you and dad all the time!
